The Long Version

Jennifer Jean Lovelidge was born in July in New York an entire month after her due date, which was fitting because she's never since been on time to anything in her life. Soon after, she moved to Bridgewater, NJ where she spent a lot of time playing flashlight tag in the neighborhood, performing plays in the basement and annoying her sister and brother.

While she never declared that she wanted to be a writer, her best friend insists she always had a flair for writing long winded, detailed notes, folded into triangles and passed during class. After her high school counselor told her he could envision her on a southern porch drinking mint juleps, Jen began her trek south attending James Madison University in Virginia. While there she spent a lot of time trying not to blow up the chemistry labs, avoiding the usage of "y'all" and hanging out at the sorority house.

Jen graduated in 1995 with a chemistry degree then headed into the deep south to attend Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. While there she spent a lot of time learning about eyes, partying on Beale Street, and falling in love.

After graduation from optometry school in 1999, Jen followed her boyfriend to his home state of Georgia. She began practicing optometry in a large, private practice in Cartersville. For the next several years Jen spent a lot of time examining eyes, taking art classes and dreaming of writing a book.

In 2001 Jen married Chris Jabaley and moved to his hometown of Blue Ridge. In 2004 Jen and Chris had their first child, a son. She spent the next few years wondering if he would ever sleep, commuting part time to work and accumulating how-to write a novel books. At this point her husband said, Stop reading about writing and just write! This was the little push she needed and decided to give it a try. It took Jen about a year to write her first young adult novel, LIPSTICK APOLOGY. Once she completed it, Jen asked her sister and best friend to read it. It was their great encouragement that convinced her to try and get it published.

Jen began the agent querying process in November of 2007. The following months proved to be very busy in the Jabaley household. Jen signed on with her agent in March, 2008, gave birth to her daughter in April and sold LIPSTICK APOLOGY to Razorbill in May. Her second book, CRUSH CONTROL released on June 9, 2011, to great reviews. She continues to juggle optometry, motherhood, writing and insane amounts of laundry.
